Unfortunately, I live in an imaginary town where all other musicians are rubbish!

The web site would allow me to upload my guitar track (of course, it could be any instrument at all). This track is shared with other people participating on the site. They can listen to my guitar track, and if they feel inclined, they can add their drums, banjo, piano, vocals, bass etc. to my track.

As each track is added the song would grow into a more complete recording. There is nothing to stop several people adding bass tracks/vocals etc. because I'm imagining that any track added could be toggled on or off. So, if someone adds really awful vocals, then I just turn that off.

I love the idea of people being able to record with complete strangers and complement other artists ideas in ways that the person who started the song would never have imagined. I'm guessing that often the results would be dire, but every now and again some quality would shine through.

I think that this kind of site is exactly the sort of place where you would get devoted users who would come back again and again to add their music to the creations of other people. It could be a way to get your musical 'voice' heard, playing with people who you would never have had the chance to play with otherwise. Imagine if a well-known artist put a track up there, people would flock in the thousands to add their ideas to those songs.

There would need to be heaps more thought applied to this, but as always it is the kernel of the idea that I am promoting here. Any developer would have a LOT of work to get this going, but the payback (in musical terms) could be awesome.]]>
Shopping Cart for followers of "The Secret" http://min.im/discussion/9/shopping-cart-for-followers-of-the-secret Mon, 21 Mar 2011 11:31:27 -0400 kpkrew 9@/discussions
The idea that the secret push's is that if you truly believe that something will happen it will (simplified somewhat) It believes that if you basically order what it is that you want from the cosmos and just assume and truly believe you will soon have it then you will. they teach all sorts of visualization tricks to help you erase doubts that it wont happen.

The idea for the website is to have a fully functional shopping cart website "cosmos shopping" or something like that which has pretty much anything that anyone would want in life there as a product on the shopping cart, anything from new cars to new girlfriend/boyfriend, houses, bikes, Tv's absolutely anything and everything. all free,

The idea is that people go to the site order what their heart desires follow it through the checkout which will not ask them for payment but will confirm that your order has been received by the cosmos and will be delivered to you shortly. you will of course make it clear what the site is about on the home page.

the idea is to make it as real a shopping experience as you can so hat their mind will believe that they will receive the goods and that there order has been received by the cosmos just like amazon or ebay.

the site would be in effect just like a vision board that the book talks a bit about.

would have been better to build it when the book "The Secret" was first released and was a world wide hit but hey just came to mind when I saw your forum.
cheers

Borrow things / lend things. http://min.im/discussion/7/borrow-things-lend-things. Fri, 18 Mar 2011 15:54:45 -0400 njwrigley 7@/discussions
I needed to trim a hedge that I have, but I had no hedge trimming tools and the hedge that I needed to cut was way too big for me to do manually, I needed a powered set of cutters.

I was out walking in the local area when I saw a friend of mine who was out, you guessed it, cutting his hedge, with just the tools that I required. Because he knew me, when I asked him if I could borrow them, he said yes and as we got chatting it turned out that I had something in my shed that he needed. We swapped our equipment for a couple of hours and still do. When I need his cutters I go around and he comes over to me too.

It got me thinking that there must be heaps and heaps of stuff in houses, sheds, attics in my area that people have, that they might lend to me once in a while, if only I knew what people had that they we were willing to lend out.

So I'm suggesting a social network for lending your possessions out to people that you already know, or who you get introduced to via the site, whom you trust enough.

I was thinking that it would need to have all sorts of checks and balances built in - perhaps a little bit like the ones that I seen on LinkedIn.com in which you get connected with various levels of remove. So, the people that I know personally are at the 1st level. These 1st level people might know other people who they trust and could recommend to me should I message the system that I need something that one of their friends has. So I might need a set of wall painting equipment. Luckily, some of my 1 level friends have it, so I go straight to them and arrange the swap. However, all my 1st level friends come up short when I ask for a paint-stripping tool. However, one of my 1st level friends, friends has exactly this tool and so the system suggests that they recommend them to me. Wheels within wheels, but you get the idea.

The question remains, how does the site know where you live and what you have that you are willing to swap. Well, the long and the short of that is user input. People who sign up would have to state where they live and make an inventory on the site of all the things that they have willing to lend out. I guess the site could assist with this, offering tick boxes for popular items, but if you wanted to swap any of your huge CD collection, you'd likely have to write in the whole lot (I like the idea of CD swapping!).

I think that the idea has merit, but it would have to stay in the real world, in other words, people who live close by and people who you know, or know via a friend. I don't know about you, but I would not lend my stuff out to 'friends' in the Facebook sense of the word. I know quite a few people, but I have no real idea what they have stashed away, nor they of me, but I'm sure that sometimes a swap would be possible.

Local protest. http://min.im/discussion/6/local-protest. Wed, 16 Mar 2011 16:20:43 -0400 njwrigley 6@/discussions
There are always local issues which need debate and where local people feel strongly about an issue, but powerless to coordinate action to make their voice heard. "I'm a tiny fish in a big pond". You most probably know of an issue right now in your area in which people would like to have something changed or stopped altogether.

The idea of the site is that it would unite people behind a certain cause. In that sense it would be like, say, Google Groups. This would go further offering ideas for how to make the protest more effective. Tips from successful campaigns of the past, how to use the media/internet to unite and spread the message. The site would act as a centre for the campaign allowing people to sign up and follow the lastest twists and turns of the protest. Phone, email, social media information could be shared therefore allowing people to be in touch with interested parties much more successfully than the current system of walking the streets and pushing notices through doors. It could offer templates for posters which you could amend to distribute locally though!

Areas of expertise could be shared and the job of organising the campaign all done online, without the need for meeting in person every time a decision needs to be made.

I think that this idea for a site needs more thought, and so I would welcome your comments below.

Thanks.]]>
Dad moaning. http://min.im/discussion/5/dad-moaning. Wed, 16 Mar 2011 16:01:25 -0400 njwrigley 5@/discussions
Typical comments refer to how annoying teenagers are, what to do to people at shops who are rude to you etc etc...

I think that this would make a really interesting site, just for the fact that we all like to moan, and joining with others who like moaning, and are good at it, would make us all feel better.]]>
Punch the boss. http://min.im/discussion/4/punch-the-boss. Wed, 16 Mar 2011 15:44:45 -0400 njwrigley 4@/discussions
You would then select from a variety of boxing gloves with which to move the mouse over that image and 'punch' him/her!

I guess that the site would need to be built in Flash as it would require a fairly sophisticated control of the image. Each time the boss was punched it would become more and more bruised and deformed, eventually bleeding!

It's mindless, but might be just what you need after that meeting in which the boss made you feel terrible and you feel like getting your own back.

I can also imagine this working quite well as a phone app with the camera supplying the image and the touch screen being the mechanism for 'punching'!]]>
What this web site (min.im) is for. http://min.im/discussion/3/what-this-web-site-min.im-is-for. Wed, 16 Mar 2011 04:48:32 -0400 njwrigley 3@/discussions
Have you ever come up with a great idea for a web site? One that would make some aspect of your life easier, more fun? Perhaps you've invented a site which has the potential to go global and make you a living.

The problem is that web sites are hard to build, and the chances are that you don't know, or can't afford to hire, people with the right skills to get the web site built.

This is a forum for just that problem.

You come here and start a 'discussion' about the basic idea behind the site. Explain thoroughly the problem that your site is going to solve and why people are going to want to use it. If your idea is good and people agree with you then hopefully they'll start to leave comments explaining possible ways that your idea can be improved and made ready. If you are lucky you might even find a friendly developer who is willing to take your idea on and move away from this forum into the real world.

Your idea will be stored at the top of the 'discussion' and comments added below. Members can vote strong ideas up and weak ideas down, hopefully just the good ones will float to the top.

We cannot guarantee that someone won't just take your idea and go off and build it, but then that's why you posted the idea here in the first place isn't it? You might have a strong moral argument for 'owning' the idea for your web site, but please only post ideas here that you want to see discussed (or built) in a free and open way.

As always the more that you put in, the more that you will get out.

Thanks and good luck.
